      The event log has this error in it:

      Windows Update failed to check for updates with error 0x80244007
      Event Source: Microsoft-Windows-WindowsUpdateClient
      Event ID: 25

      In my case, this was because Windows Update had recently installed updates, and was pending a reboot.
