I find that when I play games, Windows 8.1 keeps randomly showing the desktop. It only reverts back to showing the desktop when I play games and doesn’t seem to happen when I’m doing other full screen activity like watching a video.
There’s talk on the internet of people saying that you should try turning of Aero Snap, but people are still reporting Windows 8.1 reverting to the desktop after disabling that.
I think I’ll try updating my graphics card driver and see if that helps. The only other thing I can think it could be would be my keyboard driver or settings, I have a Logitech G510S gaming keyboard.

I think I’ve found what’s causing Windows 8.1 to keep showing the desktop during games! It seems that it’s a Scheduled task because it’s happening at 1 minute past the hour and 31 minutes past the hour. I checked the Windows 8.1 Task Scheduler and there are a multitude of things that are scheduled out of the box that could be causing Windows 8.1 to keep reverting to the desktop. Unfortunately I’m feeling too lazy to research which one could be causing my problem as it’s a Friday night, I’ve had a long week at work and have had a drink – I think I’m just going to play my game and relax tonight instead of try to get to the bottom of this seemingly intermittent issue.
If anyone does any experimentation with Scheduled Tasks, or has noticed any other patterns with the frequency that Windows 8.1 reverts to the desktop, please leave a reply!

Its’ been two weeks since Windows 8.1 has shown the desktop during games, so it seems as though running my computer game in Windowed mode has fixed the problem… Or rather it’s a workaround, because whatever is doing it will still be doing whatever it does to cause Windows 8.1 to keep showing the desktop, I just don’t get kicked out of my game all the time now 🙂
