Did you know that there are actually requirements for VMs that have VMware Fault Tolerance turned on? The VMware FT requirements in vSphere 5 are that:
- The VM may only have 1 vCPU
- Unsupported devices and features may not be attached to the VM
- VMs must be on an RDM datastore or be thick provisioned
- VMs must be stored on shared storage
- VMs must be running an OS that is supported by VMware FT
