Group Policy Modeling – Error code = 80131577 While Generating Report

When trying to view the results of the Group Policy Modeling Wizard, you get this error:

An error occurred while generating report:
Error text not available. Error code = 80131577

This is a bug that occurs when a Group Policy Preference registry item has been created using the Group Policy Preference Registry Wizard.

To fix this, find the Group Policy Preference registry item and delete it, then the Group Policy Modeling Wizard should work.

Obviously this isn’t an appropriate fix for a number of reasons: You can’t find the registry item, hence the reason you’re running the Group Policy Modeling Wizard in the first place, to see what’s required. Also you won’t want to delete the registry item because it will currently be used.

Therefore a more realistic solution is to find another way to work out what group policies are applying, instead of using the Group Policy Modeling Wizard. For example, try running the Group Policy Results on a specific PC instead then using this to work out what applies from each applied GPO or find the erroneous registry item.
