In the event log, you get this error:

Windows Update failed to check for updates with error 0x8024400E

Event ID: 25
Source: Microsoft-Windows-WindowsUpdateClient

This is typically because there’s an issue with your WSUS server. Check the settings to make sure the computer is pointed to the correct container and server, etc. In my case, I had installed an update on my WSUS server which broke WSUS. I fixed this by reinstalling WSUS.
