Windows Services Takes A Long Time To Start

When running the Services.msc MMC snap-in to view the services running on the computer, it’s very slow to start. This is usually for one of two reasons:

1. The services snap-in was last used to connect to a remote computer. This setting is saved under the account that it was run (i.e. Administrator) and it takes time to iterate the services of a remote computer (even if it’s on the same LAN!).
2. The other reason, which I can’t remember right now! (I’ll update the article later if it comes back to me, and if I remember).

To fix this, run mmc.exe instead of Services.msc, then add the Services.msc snap-in to the MMC.
