Wanna know what the fastest internet browser for Windows 8 is? The fastest internet browser for Windows 8 (according to benchmark test results from Sunspider – which tests internet browsers for speed) is Microsoft Internet Explorer 11!

More surprisingly, and specifically the Windows Store app version of Internet Explorer 11 is faster than the other major browsers, including Microsoft IE 11 desktop version.

Here are the speed test results / benchmark scores comparing the 5 major internet browsers on the market at the moment (The fastest internet browser is shown at the top of the list, with the rating being the amount of time it takes to load a series of test webpages and web apps):

    1. Internet Explorer 11 (Windows Store app version) – with a 93.1ms response time
    2. Internet Explorer 11 – with a 94.7ms response time
    3. Firefox 30.0 – with a 157.9ms response time
    4. Google Chrome 35.0 – with a 165.2ms response time
    5. Opera – with a 174.4ms response time
    6. Safari – with a 197.9ms response time

It’s quite astounding how fast Internet Explorer 11 is, being about 50% faster which is noticeably faster than other major internet browsers!

So, in summary, Internet Explorer 11 is the fastest internet browser by far, with Firefox and Google Chrome being about 50% slower and Opera and Safari being the slowest on the market. However, this doesn’t mean you should only use Internet Explorer 11 and forget the rest, there’s also functionality to consider.

Personally, I find the Windows Store app version of Internet Explorer to be awkward to use. This is mainly because I don’t like it taking up my whole screen and like to see other programs that are running. Because of this, and the small speed difference between the 2 versions of Internet Explorer 11, I would use the slower desktop version every time.

Also you have to remember that just because Internet Explorer 11 is the fastest browser in benchmark tests, this doesn’t mean that it will load every website faster than the other browsers, or even be more compatible!

My recommendation: Use Internet Explorer 11 because it’s fastest, but if you have a website that you use regularly that works better with other internet browsers, install that one as well!
