Windows Media player only supports some video file format like .wmv, .mp4 and .3gp. It cannot play all video file formats so you need another software to be able to play these video files. FLV player and K-Lite codec are the most popular and easily downloadable on net. It can play .flv, .mkv and almost all other video file formats.
