When trying to view DFS share details in the DFS Management window, you get this error:
The namespace cannot be queried. The specified domain does not exist
This is because your domain controller with the FMSO roles is uncontactable. FSMO roles are not required for the use of DFS or DFSR, but are required for the management of DFS.
