When you try to renew your IP address, you get this error:

      Windows IP Configuration

An error occurred while renewing interface Ethernet : The name specified in the network control block (NCB) is in use on a remote adapter.
      The NCB is the data.

This issue is caused by one of the following:

      • The subnet of the DHCP server is different to the subnet of the addresses it’s putting out and there is no DHCP relay to connect the subnets
      • A firewall is blocking the DHCP requests or a network issue is preventing the DHCP server from connecting to the DHCP client
      • The DHCP server is trying to give out IP addresses from scopes that overlap

I have to say that the name specified in the network control block (NCB) is in use on a remote adapter error is probably one of the most unusual errors I’ve ever had to fix.
