By default, the security tab will be missing from the properties of a file / folder in Windows XP. This is because Simple file Sharing is turned on. To fix this, in Windows Explorer, click View -> Folder Options, then scroll to the bottom of the list and untick Use Simple File Sharing. The security tab should no longer be missing from the properties of files and folders in Windows XP.
