Setting up System Restore in Windows 7 can save your computer settings and help recover from a crash. To set up System Restore in Windows 7:
- Right click My Computer and click Properties
- Click System protection
- Under Protection Settings, click the drive you want to set up System Restore on
- Click Configure
- Select either Restore system settings and previous versions of files or Only restore previous versions of files, depending on how you want to set System Restore up
- Click OK -> OK
System Restore is now set up and restore points will be created automatically when changes are made to your system.
PS: Don’t forget to ensure that System Restore is set up on the drive that your system files are installed to.

- If you use Norton Antivirus, you should disable Norton System Protection
- System Protection is not a backup system and will only protect your system files. You still need to backup your data!
- System Restore is set up by default in Windows 7
- System Restore in Windows 7 requires NTFS. It will not work on FAT or FAT32 partitions
