Need to migrate the VMware Update Manager database to another SQL server? Here’s how to move the VMware Update Manager database:

    1. Stop the following services on the vCenter server:
      • VMware vSphere Update Manager Service
      • VMware vSphere Update Manager UFA Service
    2. Backup the VMware Update Manager database
    3. Restore the VMware Update Manager database to the new SQL server
    4. On the vCenter server, click Start -> Administrative Tools -> Data Sources (ODBC)
❗ Note: if you have a 32 bit installation of VMware Update Manager and are using a 64bit server, then you will need to launch the 32bit version of ODBC
    5. Select the System tab
    6. Select the DSN for the Update Manager database
    7. Click Configure…
    8. Configure the DSN to point to the SQL server that the database is being migrated to
    9. Take the old database offline
    10. Start the services on the vCenter server

This completes the migration of the VMware Update Manager database.
