I get this error on my Sony Vaio laptop:

The installed battery may not be properly connected to the computer or may not be compatible with the computer

Click “OK” to enter Hibernate mode, and remove and reinsert the battery. See the VAIO(R) User Guide for more information about using the battery.

I have a Sony VAIO laptop and after the third Windows install I was still getting the installed battery may not be properly connected to the computer or may not be compatible with the computer error.

When I clicked on OK, the laptop would simply turn off. If I chose to ignore it, it would simply pop up after a couple of seconds and I would accidentally click on OK and turn it would off.

Here’s how I fixed this error:

    1. Remove battery and restart laptop
    2. Go to Start and type msconfig
    3. Click on the Startup tab and uncheck the ISB Utility item, if this is checked
    4. Turn off laptop, put the battery in and then start your laptop

Hope this helps you as it bugged me like hell for 2 days straight.

I suppose if the battery wasn’t connected properly, you would have other problems than an alert saying that the installed battery may not be properly connected to the computer; The computer would be powering off, failing to charge and all sorts…

If you don’t get any issues with the battery, perhaps it’s a broken sensor in the laptop / battery (warrantee repair?) or the ISB Utility is just rubbish :p

Thanks for sharing the fix, Jonathon 🙂
