Lots of websites say that you can use RealPlayer Cloud to stream local videos from your PC to your TV using Chromecast, but none tell you how to do this. Can anyone tell me how to use Chromecast and RealPlayer to play videos from my PC without uploading them first?

It seems backwards to upload something just so you can download it to play through Google Chromecast.

Ok, so I’ve just found out how to use Chromecast to play local video’s from my PC, using a Google Chrome tab (rather than the experimental cast entire screen option that makes the video choppy).

The trick is NOT TO USE REALPLAYER CLOUD! Instead, install any media player that has a Google Chrome plugin that plays video within a tab. My favourite is VLC Player. Then open Google Chrome and type the file path into the address bar in the following format (note the direction of the slashes!):

      file:///E:/Media/Films/Avengers,%20The.mkv

You will then be able to play local video from your PC straight to Chromecast without having to install RealPlayer Cloud!

Addendum: I’ve heard you can also use Plex+ to play local video through ChromeCast because it plays through a browser. I’m yet to test this out…

Or you could just play everything over the net via Amazon. You can get a free trial for a month that allows access to over 40,000 films.
