Did you know that there are hidden performance features for Google Chromecast? Here’s how to access the hidden features for Google Chromecast:
Open Google Chrome
Click the Chromecast icon
Right click anywhere in the options tab
Click Inspect element
At the bottom of the screen, expand the body text
Select the line that says showDevSettings
On the right hand side, hover the mouse over the style that says:
display: none !important;
This will cause a tickbox to appear next to the display: none !important; code. Untick the tickbox.
❗ Note: the exact code may change from version to version and the detail of this will undoubtedly change with future versions. Look for any HTML or CSS code that hides web elements and remove or disable it to view the hidden options. (If you do find that it changes, to help others please list the code that it changes to at the bottom of this article, Thanks! 🙂 )
Close the Inspect element interface with the little x on the top right hand side of the code window
The hidden developer options will now appear and you can change a selection of features ranging from:
Tab casting mode
Automatically send Cast extension usage statistics to Google
It seems that with every update to Google Chromecast they change the html that hides the hidden settings. Try searching the code for the word hide and commenting this out. Alternatively search for a word that’s displayed only in the hidden settings and find out how it’s being hidden.
Let me know how you get on (please share the latest setting with the forum 🙂 ), and if you’re still struggling I’ll see if I can find it for you.
