When trying to RDP to a computer, you get this error:
Remote Desktop can’t connect to the remote computer for one of these reasons:
1) Remote access to the server is not enabled
2) The remote computer is turned off
3) The remote computer is not available on the network
Make sure the remote computer is turned on and connected to the network, and that remote access is enabled
To fix this, obviously make sure the remote computer is on and connected to the network, then check the following:
- The firewall is set to allow Remote Desktop – you can disble the Windows Firewall momentarily to confirm this
- Remote Desktop is enabled on the remote computer
- The user you are trying to connect via RDP, is one of the selected users to be allowed to RDP to the computer
If all of the following are set correctly, then you should be able to RDP. If you still can’t connect to the remote computer, then you must have a hardware firewall or some other network issue preventing you from RDPing to the remote computer.
