Fatal Alert Generated – Schannel, Event ID 36888

When updating Windows, or performing other actions on Windows, you get this error in the Event Log:

A fatal alert was generated and sent to the remote endpoint. This may result in termination of the connection. The TLS protocol defined fatal error code is 70. The Windows SChannel error state is 105

This is caused by a remote endpoint trying to connect over https protocol, which is not available for a service. You can safely ignore this and may wish to update the EventLogging registry value to 0 to stop logging Schannel alerts (or create it if it doesn’t exist).
