      When you clone a virtual machine from a template and customise it, you get this error from VMware:

      Clone Virtual Machine

      A specified parameter was not correct.
      spec.identity.userData.computerName

      Obviously the spec.identity.userData.computerName parameter not being correct refers to an issue with the computerName. To fix this:

      • Ensure that there are no underscores in the computerName
      • Ensure that the computerName is a valid computer name according to Windows (isn’t longer than 15 characters and doesn’t contain invalid characters)
      • Ensure that the computerName doesn’t contain only numbers

      After correcting the computerName, you should then be able to clone the VM from a template without the spec.identity.userData.computerName error.
